Nice, but every time I hit NY all I think of is how and when I'm going to get out of there. No different this time: enjoyed half a day with family, stayed overnight, enjoyed a day and a dinner, and hit the road.
And I never learn. I just can't drive across Manhattan without getting lost. TomTom and the Droid in Navigation mode were no match for it: I came out of the Lincoln Tunnel with instructions to keep right ... in the left lane. The sign said 495 go left, but in the right lane it said 495 go right. So of course I went left. No more signs. So I just kinda turned ... and found myself inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Where the buses go. Where when you are waiting for a bus you get to look through windows at buses driving around. Ya know what? There ain't no signs there for people who ain't driving a bus and happen to not belong there. I figured since I came in on the third floor I'd go either down or towards natural light and eventually found an exit sign. Shortly thereafter I saw a guy standing in the lane pointing the way out. I figure as soon as I drove in they saw me on camera and got on radios saying "another moran inside" and set up to point me out.
Eventually I found my way out to Long Island and my destination, so all is well. OMG I gassed up in NJ and didn't need gas again until NJ on the homeward journey. ~25 to the gallon, 350+ per tank.
Anyway it was pretty cool to get some time with my Mom, my sister, my brother in law, and my nephew. Mom seems okay. Looks good, still working. Joan is going slightly crazy but seems to have it together given the circumstances. A plan for now, when, and after: what else can one do eh? Greg looks good and seems good. I kinda expected him to look ... sick or ill or something, but pretty much expected the same guy. A nurse from hospice came by while I was there. Very cool support he gets. It's all about keeping the quality of life as high as possible until the end. They upped his medication a bit to help him sleep. When the fact that he was on Ativan (lorazepam generically) came up I was like "OMG that shit is awesome!!!" cuz it is. Hopefully he got a good night's sleep finally. Life is hard if you're terminally ill, but life SUCKS if you can't get enough relief from pain to sleep like a human. James seems to be doing really good. Working road construction with an eye on crane operator. Damn good money but ass-busting work. For now.
Oh well. Laundry is done, just saw a rather awesome tit on the telly, and done with my morning coffee so it seems like time to pack up and hit the road. ~1500 miles left, so I should be able to hit the house Saturday evening. That means grillin' up some rib-eyes on Sunday sounds like a great idea. So Lori if you see this lemme know what time seems good for you. Oh and don't be afraid to invite single available friends
