Met my trainer yesterday as he was pulling in to the terminal. With a trailer with a lighting problem so we weren't gonna go anywhere that day. Spent the night in the sleeper - woohoo! I reckon that's the last time I'll be excited about that... Got up and the trailer allegedly was fixed. Turns out though it wasn't. The pigtail connection on the tractor was the issue so we fixed that and headed out with Oregon in mind. Made it as far as Idaho. Boise. I drove about 315 miles. Didn't crush anything or kill anyone but that's about it. Missing gears when shifting. Not getting it out of gear sometimes too. Too much clutch still my biggest issue. Damn. Went through two scales - woohoo, and again that's the last time I'll pretend that is exciting. Little bit of rain, little bit of near-fog, very little actual traffic. Oh and didn't stall the truck so that's cool too.
My trainer seems pretty cool. Been driving fifteen years, owns his truck. Well, a few more payments and he owns it but same thing. We spent a bunch of time bullshitting along and we seem to get along pretty well. Fairly good amount of common views on stuff, a few things we see differently on, but nothing that seems like "this ain't gonna work" so overall I'm pretty happy with my first actual day of training.
