Shit happens eh? Finally called my sister to wish her a merry late Christmas and found out Greg was in major bad shape and was heading to hospice at that exact moment. About half an hour later I called again to get the hospice info so I could give it to the employer so they could verify it (which means they flat-out didn't take my word for it) so I could get emergency leave and found out he passed away. Called the job back and had both hospice and funeral parlor info but this time they just took my word for it. WTF? So I unloaded my stuff off the truck, which I had just loaded into the afternoon prior, which was still in the terminal because a problem identified on the 23rd didn't get fixed so it was going to get fixed that day. Tuesday. Then loaded it all into the car, drove home, changed what I had packed, figured out there was no way flying was a viable option so I was going to make the drive, went to my Tuesday AA meeting, then hit the road. ~2500 miles worth of journey, figured just get somewhere and see what the future holds. As it turns out "somewhere" ended up being almost the far side of Oklahoma. My little road logger thing up there can't do 4 digits because for commercial driving it simply isn't legally possible in one 11-hour driving session, and it really sucked to do the style work and make all the numbers fit nicely. I got about 22 hours of drive time remaining, and if I can keep my off time to 18 hours I'll be there in time for the services and funeral. Good thing I packed a suit eh?
